Functional properties of the dietary supplement Butrykol™ are due to the component included in its composition.
Tributyrin is a triglyceride consisting of butyric acid and glycerin. Butyric acid is a short-chain fatty acid formed in the colon during microbial digestion by saccharolytic microbiota (bacteroides, bifidobacteria, fusobacteria, peptostreptococci, clostridia, etc.).
Butyric acid is not only a source of energy for the epithelial cells of the colon but also affects a wide range of cellular functions, supporting intestinal homeostasis. Butyric acid can positively affect the intestinal walls (especially the colon), enhancing its barrier function against antigens. One of the important components of this barrier is the mucus layer covering the epithelium, and butyric acid enhances mucus production and restores antimicrobial protein levels.
